New Found Glory – “Tennessee” by Arrested Development
“We chose “Tennessee” by Arrested Development because some of us grew listening to this record. He sang about important issues dealing with racism, poverty and many other political topics. Instead of just recording a guilty pleasure rap/pop song we decided to do something we were more passionate about.”
Set Your Goals -“Put Yo Hood Up (California)” by Lil Jon & The Eastside Boyz
“We chose to cover Lil Jon & The Eastside Boyz “Put Yo Hood Up (California)” for Punk Goes Crunk. It all started when we checked out the PYHU video on youtube and were immediately sold on the track. We knew however, if we were to pull off the song right, we would need some serious outside help. We would need someone who not only had an ear for punk music, but an ear for “club-driven hip-hop rhythms” too. That person was Cyrus Bolooki, drummer from New Found Glory. Trying to collaborate with conflicting touring schedules made this difficult. This track was recorded and mixed in various cities including Walnut Creek(CA), Miami (FL), , and Sydney and Adelaide, Australia. We are very happy with how the song turned out. It has proven to be our most “crunk” song yet!”
My American Heart – “California Love” by 2Pac
“We chose “California Love” because being that our band is from Cali, it only seemed appropriate to recreate the biggest “west coast” anthem anyone has ever heard. Recording the track was very experimental for us. We tried a lot of different instruments, samples, voices, etc.”
Forever the Sickest Kids -“Men in Black” Will Smith
“We were left with no option but to chose the most crunk song and rapper ever which is why we recorded “Men in Black.” It’s also is the best movie ever that stars Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith.”
Lorene Drive – “Hey Ya” Outkast
“Yo Yo when first had heard bout dis Punk Goes Crunk compilation right off the bat we wanted to cover “California Love”. Then we caught wind dat My American Heart already claimed territory on it. We was like damnn we betta smoke these foo’s. Then big D said “ayy homie lets do “Hey Ya” by dat crazy ass foo Outkast.” Next thing you know we was all up in the LD studio pumpin up dat bass and cuttin tracks makin it so fresh and so clean clean… So pump up your system till that trunk starts rattlin!! Yall best recognize some real O.G. gangsters comin correct.
